We
Are God’s Children
Jeffrey
B. Childs 7/6/19
We
are God’s children,
Reflecting
the image of God.
Transmitting
God’s goodness and love,
Both
near here and far abroad.
We
are God’s hands and feet,
To
be there where there are needs.
We
are God’s heart and soul,
Offering
prayers along with our deeds.
We
are God’s mercy and grace,
Forgiving
as we’ve been forgiven.
We
are God’s compassion and peace,
As
Christ taught us, is how we are livin’.
Jeffrey B. Childs 9/3/19
God of the everlasting
God of the moments ever passing
God of the universal
God of the very personal
We praise your holy name
God of the macroscopic
God of the tiny microscopic
God of the colossal
God of the infinitesimal
We praise your holy name
God of the vast beyond
God of all of whom you’re fond
God forever; God immortal
God of us so simply mortal
We praise your holy name
God
of the Mountains
Jeffrey
B. Childs 9/4/19
God
of the mountains
God
of the hills
God
of the rocks
God
of the very rills
We
worship you
God
of the oceans
God
of the seas
God
of the forests
God
of the trees
We
worship you
God
of the deserts
God
of the plains
God
of all places
And
all earth’s terrains
We
worship you
Your
creation’s majestic
From
the large to the small
And
we are a part
Of
your all in all
We
worship you
Grace
to You and Peace
Jeffrey B. Childs 11/8/19
Grace
to you and peace,
To
the early church Paul writes.
Sometimes
answering concerns,
Local
situations and church fights.
There
is compassion in his words,
A
point is made and driven home.
Whether
to his friends in Corinth,
Ephesus,
Philippi or Rome.
Some
were specific; some were quite broad,
Thoughts
count a little but letters a lot.
They
must have been treasured, copied and shared,
A
letter from Paul must have just hit the spot.
So,
whom do you know with deep concerns?
A
friend in need is a friend indeed.
Take
paper and pen; share grace and peace,
Share
a letter or note as a friendly deed.
Sing
to the Lord a New Song
Jeffrey B. Childs
11/12/19
Sing
to the Lord a new song,*
Sing
of the highs and the lows,
Sing
to the Lord all the day long,
Sing
of the sun and the snows.
The
Lord is among us,
Sing
it out strong.
The
Lord is for us,
To
God we belong.
Daily
discover that new song to sing,
Tell
others where God is revealed.
Proclaim
God’s presence in everything,
In
lives touched and hurts healed.
The
Lord is among us,
Sing
it out strong.
The
Lord is for us,
To
God we belong.
*Psalm 98.1
It Is More Blessed to Give
Jeffrey B. Childs 11/13/19
It is more blessed to give,
Then to receive.
And more blessed to live,
When we believe.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst,
They shall be filled.
Blessed are those who were last become first,
For this the Lord willed.
Blessed are those whose spirits are low
They shall be lifted to heaven.
Blessed are those who God’s mercy they show,
To them mercy shall be given.
Blessed are those whose hearts are pure,
For God they shall see.
Blessed are those who grieve, for sure,
For they shall comforted be.
Blessed are those who bring peace and love,
God’s children they shall be named.
Blessed all sufferers for their faith from above,
For them Go’s reign shall be claimed.
Blessed are you in times good and times bad,
For in your shoes the Lord has stood.
Blessed are you; rejoice and be glad,
God is merciful, God is good.
God
the Giver
Jeffrey
B. Childs 11/14/19
From
the first Bible stories,
God
the giver gives gifts.
From
nothing – creation and glories,
The
Almighty uplifts.
From
the fragments of atoms to the heavens above,
From
the nearest of near to the farthest abroad.
From
the things we most hate to the ones we most love,
All
created matters, matter to God.
All
is given to us according to writ,
Not
just for the taking, but caretaking, too.
So,
take care, do your part, to take care of it,
For
you are a gift. To the world God gave you.
Thank
God for your gifts. Put them all to good use.
Be
a gift of creation in a tangible way.
As
the Creator created, use your gifts as you choose.
Be
the best you, you can be, make a difference today.
Thank
God for All the Blessings
Jeffrey
B. Childs 11/15/19
When
all is going great
Thank
God for all the struggles
When
there's too much on your plate
Life
is full of ups and downs
Times
may be good or bad
But
God is omnipresent
In
all the times we've had
So,
thank God in each moment
And
at times when you review
Looking
back at all those times
When
God was there for you
Today
thank God for being God
And
being by your side
You
are loved by the God of love
It
was for your life Christ died
Thank
You, Lord
Jeffrey
B. Childs 11/18/19
When
all is well and going great,
When
there is ample food on my plate,
When
I experience more love than hate,
In
all these blessings, my praise I’ll state,
Thank
you, Lord.
When
all the world seems quite crazy,
When
I’m overwhelmed or just lazy,
When
things aren’t so clear but hazy,
In
all of that I’ll still praise Ye,
Thank you, Lord.
In
the ups and downs that all life brings,
In
the highs and lows of all those things,
In
all of life, to you, my faith still clings,
And
through it all my heart joyfully sings,
Thank you, Lord.
We
Are Thankful
Jeffrey
B. Childs 11/20/19
For
this day which You have made,
We are thankful.
For
all the glories You’ve displayed,
We are thankful.
For
all the gifts You have bestowed,
We are thankful.
For
journeying with us on the road,
We are thankful.
For
who you are and all you do,
We are thankful.
For
loving us with all of you,
We are thankful.
For
your Son you sent to save,
We are thankful.
For
life eternal beyond the grave,
We are thankful.
Thanks
Be to God
Jeffrey
B. Childs 11/21/19
In
all that happens along the way,
Through
faith be present and aware,
And
with grateful hearts then truly say,
Thanks
be to God.
Not
once a year but throughout each day,
Watch
for God’s presence and loving care
And
with grateful hearts then humbly pray,
Thanks
be to God.
We
offer God this our thanksgiving,
For
we are blessed to be a blessing,
And
with grateful hearts then simply sing,
Thanks
be to God.
With
Grateful Hearts
Jeffrey
B. Childs 11/22/19
With
grateful hearts we sing God’s praise,
Through
dark gloomy nights and bright shiny days,
For
the Lord God is with us; then, now and always.
Thank
God for the small, the tiny, the least,
Thank
God for it all in the north, south, west and east,
Thank
God for abundance and this Thanksgiving feast.
We
thank God for God who claims all creation is good,
All
over the globe and in our neighborhood,
We
bow now and give thanks for this blessing of food. Amen.
Advent
Jeffrey
B. Childs 11/25/19
Advent
is a season of watching and waiting,
Filled
with hope and anticipating,
Take
this time to do your part,
To
welcome Christ with an open heart.
Let
go of anger, guilt and malice,
That
your heart might become a royal palace,
The
babe may arrive in a manger stall,
But
prepare your heart like a banquet hall.
Prepare
to welcome the King of kings,
Get
rid of distractions and distressing things,
Fill
your heart with love and glory,
Awaiting
again that marvelous story.
For
the day soon comes for all to rejoice,
And
with the angels we’ll lift our voice,
But
now’s the time to patiently wait,
To
bow our heads and contemplate.
Thank
You, God
Jeffrey
B. Childs 11/27/19
Thank
you, God, for giving us food,
That
we might live another day.
Help
us, God, to do something good,
And
give some of your food away.
Thank
you, God, for giving us life,
That
we might fully live it.
Help
us, God, to overcome strife,
And
offer love and fully live it.
Thank
you, God, for giving us faith,
That
we might face all fear and doubt.
Help
us, God, grow interfaith,
To
worship here and all about.
Thank
you, God, for giving us hope,
That
we might strengthen one another.
Help
us, God, at the end of our rope,
To
receive help from sister or brother.
Thank
you, God, for giving us love,
That
we might love everybody.
Help
us, God, with your strength from above,
To
love ourselves as well as anybody.
We
Wait and We Wait
Jeffrey
B. Childs 11/28/19
We
wait and we wait for these weeks four,
This
time may fly or drag on forever more,
And
all that will happen we anticipate,
But
in this season, we don’t just wait.
Like
all births that in their own time come,
The
Messiah will come, and all will become,
Revealed
to the world in a marvelous way,
So,
watch while you are waiting every day.
For
glimpses of Christ can be seen anywhere,
Watch
for Him here and watch for Him there.
And
as we are able may we each do our part,
That
Christ be revealed in another soul’s heart.
Today
be Christ’s hands or maybe His feet,
Do
something for someone you meet on the street,
Answer
the questions, “What Would Jesus Do?”
Christ’s
coming may come through me and through you.
The
King Is Coming
Jeffrey
B. Childs 11/29/19
The
King is coming, all must be prepared,
Give
it your all and let nothing be spared.
Our
homes may be ready, but our hearts may be not,
So,
take time to uncover and confess each dark blot.
We
decorate houses with lights and with trees,
But
no time for praying upon bended knees.
Churches
have wreaths and candles aglow,
But
what, by their lives, do their people show?
Each
week light a candle your Faith to enlighten,
And
watch how it glows as Hope also brightens.
Despite
pressures and struggles may Peace rule your life,
May
the Love in your heart overcome the world’s strife.
The
King is coming and what will He find?
Tinsel
and trappings or a heart pure and kind.
God
looks not on the outside, the beneath to conceal,
But
looks at the heart to reveal what is real.
Advent
Begins
Jeffrey
B. Childs 11/30/19
Journey’s
aren’t short, they are usually long,
But
they can be summed up in a short little song.
They
all start with visions, ideas or dreams,
God’s
Messiah would come, how preposterous it seems!
But
various prophets foretold it eons ago,
And
people all waited that this year You’d show.
What
if this is the year a new Advent to start,
Might
God be revealing something new in your heart?
Mary
was blessed by an angel with vision,
Say
“No” or say “Yes” would be her decision,
This
journey would challenge as all journeys do,
But
God would be with her and with God she’d get through.
The
journey for Mary began nine months before,
In
four weeks from now, let’s see what God has instore.
Will
you come on God’s journey to envision God’s vision?
Say
“No” or say “Yes.” It is now your decision.
