The Wisemen Came One Way

                        Rev. Jeffrey B. Childs 1/1/23

The wise men came one way,

Following a star.

To seek for a new king,

They came very far.

They returned on another way,

Revealed in a dream,

Away from King Herod,

And his deadly scheme.

They brought their precious gifts,

Gold, frankincense, myrrh.

Gifts for the King of Kings.

And for his mother,

They shared of the wonder,

In the star they'd seen.

Announcing a baby.

Israel's new king.

Take Time to Reflect Today

                        Rev. Jeffrey B. Childs 1/3/23

Take time to reflect today,

And why you were created.

Ask and hear how God would say,

Your purpose might be stated.

Dare to dream and to live it.

Give it all you can give it.

We should ask, “just who am I,

And what is my God-purpose?”

In the end, i'll be judged by,

How close I followed Jesus.

More than only talk the talk,

May I also walk the walk!

“Just who are you?” We might ask,

Of a stranger that we meet.

What is your God-given task,

That God asks you to complete?

As we ask each other’s goals,

May it bless both of our souls.

We Sing the Glory of the Lord

                        Rev. Jeffrey B. Childs 1/4/23

We sing the glory of the Lord,

Offering God our praise.

As Lord of Lords, the Lord’s adored,

Now and for all our days.

We celebrate the Lord is here.

We are blessed by God's grace.

Whenever two or more gather,

The Lord is in this place.

Then when the final hymn is sung,

The benediction’s heard,

Then the true service is begun,

When we go share the Word.

From a Land Very Far Away

                        Rev. Jeffrey B. Childs 1/6/23

From a land very far away,

Magi followed a star.

Through deserts, they found their way,

From a land very far.

What might they teach us? Let us pray,

As we look for a sign.

May we too have such faith today.

Let Epiphany shine.

What role faithfully might we play,

As we worship the Lord?

Like magi might we homage pay,

That Jesus be adored?

In Midwinter We Watch and Wait

                        Rev. Jeffrey B. Childs 1/7/23

In midwinter, we watch and wait,

And look for signs of spring.

Through the long nights of bitter cold,

Frozen is everything.

We pray one day the thaw will come,

To winters frigid fist.

For we know that as days expand,

Winter cannot persist.

Then when at last the springtime comes,

With elongated days.

Snow turns to rain and once again,

We sing to the Lord praise.

What had been brown now turns to green.

Flowers poke through the snow.

What was dormant again springs forth,

As all begins to grow.

Summer now comes to us again,

We give to God our praise.

With gatherings and festivals,

We celebrate long days.

As the sun moves high in the sky,

The summer days are here.

With heat and light, the crops grow ripe,

The harvest time draws near.

Then one day, fall is in the air.

With the cold wind that blows.

The season changes once again.

As round the sun earth goes.

The days grow short, and nights grow long.

We gather the crops in.

And give to God our Thanksgiving.

For another year. Amen.

Christ Came Down to Earth

                        Rev. Jeffrey B. Childs 1/9/23

Christ came down to earth,

To be one of us,

To forgive our sins,

For God so loved us.

Refrain:

At communion we raise,

The bread and the cup,

And with heartfelt praise,

We lift the Lord up.

We praise God today,

For what God has done,

By offering us,

Eternal salvation.

Refrain:

For all we have seen,

And all we have heard,

We know we have been,

Blessed by the Lord's word.

Refrain:

Spend Time in Prayer Each Day

                        Rev. Jeffrey B. Childs 1/10/23

Spend time in prayer each day.

Hear what God has to say.

May we the Lord obey.

There at the burning bush,

God gave Moses a push.

May we the Lord obey.

Seek out God's holy ground,

Where God's will, will be found.

May we the Lord obey.

May the Lord's call be clear.

May we do what we hear.

May we the Lord obey.

God gives our life purpose,

As we follow Jesus.

May we the Lord obey.

If we but do God’s will,

Our purpose we’ll fulfill.

May we the Lord obey.

God's joy will fill our hearts,

As we each do our parts.

May we the Lord obey.

We'll give to God our praise.

We'll serve God all our days.

May we the Lord obey.

Sing to God Praises

                        Rev. Jeffrey B. Childs 1/10/23

Sing to God praises,

And give God glory,

For all that God has done for us.

We have been so blessed,

By the love of God,

God so loved us to send Jesus.

All of creation,

Reveals God's handiwork.

God was pleased with all God had made.

God continues to bless,

Each and every day,

When God comes and renders aid.

God Is Great and God Is Good

                        Rev. Jeffrey B. Childs 1/11/23

God is great and God is good.

Let us thank God as we should,

With the blessings that God gives.

In thus the Holy Spirit lives

Refrain:

Praise God Almighty.

Praise God Almighty.

Praise God Almighty.

The Bible tells us so.

In a world of dark and sin,

Let the light of Christ come in,

To shine bright both day and night,

To reveal to us what's right.

Refrain:

As followers of the Word,

May we do what we have heard.

Let us always do our part,

With Christ’s words upon our heart.

Refrain:

We Praise the Lord Jesus Christ

                        Rev. Jeffrey B. Childs 1/12/23

We praise the Lord Jesus Christ,

For his life he sacrificed,

For atonement for all our sin,

That we would be forgiven.

We praise the name of Jesus,

Who came to be one of us.

In the beginning was the Word,

Who came that God's word might be heard.

We praise God's Holy Spirit,

For when we are desperate,

On us breathes God's holy breath,

And new life overcomes death.

We praise the God of heaven above,

Who created us by love,

That we might forever be,

Loved for all eternity.

In a World Where People Doubt

                        Rev. Jeffrey B. Childs 1/13/23

In a world where people doubt,

Help us share what life's about.

God is love, and God loves us,

So much that God sent Jesus.

In a world where people cry,

In their pain they wonder why,

That to them this thing happened,

Help us be there as a friend.

In a world where things go wrong,

Help us show it’s not for long,

Sharing hope and our belief,

How your love will bring relief.

In a world where people fear,

Help us, Lord, to them draw near,

That they know they're not alone,

To them let your light be shown.

In a world where people grieve,

Help us share what we believe,

Of that life that's beyond death,

When we take our final breath.

Scripture Says That God Is Love

                        Rev. Jeffrey B. Childs 1/14/23

Scripture says that God is love.

Love is what the world's made of,

Crafted by a loving hand,

Declared good, as God had planned.

Two hearts come to beat as one,

And a new world is begun.

They will begin a new life.

They will be husband and wife.

When they find that things are tough,

They will find more than enough.

Love and strength will see them through,

By what they together do.

When they find that things go well,

They'll have stories they will tell,

How God gave them each the best,

And they are forever blessed.

Help Us, Lord, to Watch and Pray

                        Rev. Jeffrey B. Childs 1/16/23

Help us, Lord, to watch and pray.

Show us, with you, what just may,

Happen if we do your will,

And our purpose to fulfill.

You created us in love,

That is what we are made of.

May we fully love you too,

By the loving acts we do.

May we follow your decrees,

To even love our enemies.

May we be humble and meek.

Help us turn the other cheek.

As you have so loved us,

Sending us the Lord Jesus,

For us his life he did give,

To show us how we should live.

Help Us, O Lord, to Do Our Best

                        Rev. Jeffrey B. Childs 1/18/23

Help us, O Lord, to do our best,

That in our doing you'll be blessed.

For you have given life to us,

And in love sent to us Jesus.

May we daily imitate Christ,

Give up ourselves like he sacrificed,

That we might share our love for you,

In all we say and all we do.

We give to you all of our praise,

And worship you all of our days.

We yield our will and selfish pride.

Put us to work or set us aside.

We seek to do your holy will,

And may we our purpose fulfill,

That we might do all that you wish,

That your work we will accomplish.

Call Us to Do Your Holy Work

                        Rev. Jeffrey B. Childs 1/18/23

Call us to do your holy work.

Help us to do it and not shirk.

Help us go where you could use us.

Help us deny our excuses.

You called to Moses from a bush,

And gave to him a holy push.

Help us remember what you said,

When he was filled with fear and dread.

We may be young. We may be old.

We may be weak, but with you we're bold.

We’re never left out on our own.

With you we're never all alone.

Overcome each poor lame excuse.

Put us now to your holy use.

If it's your will let it be done.

At your command the victory’s won.

Come Celebrate the Lord on High

                        Rev. Jeffrey B. Childs 1/19/23

Come celebrate the Lord on high.

Let praises ring throughout the sky.

Through Jesus Christ we've all been blessed,

For God's sent us the very best.

Christ calls us now to do God's will,

And Christ’s mission we're to fulfill,

To spread Good News throughout the land,

Announcing God's realm is at hand.

This is the day we've waited for,

Foretold by prophets who've come before.

This is the time, this is the place,

Where we will see God face to face.

We Come before the Lord in Prayer

                        Rev. Jeffrey B. Childs 1/20/23

We come before the Lord in prayer.

Our faults and sins to God we bear.

And in our souls the tumults cease,

As we're forgiven and given peace.

We come before the Lord and pray,

That God will guide us through the day,

And help us be where God needs us,

To be the hands and feet of Jesus.

We come before the Lord to hear,

God whisper to us in our ear,

To know we are blessed by God’s love,

And have a place in heaven above.

Our Journey Begins at Our Birth

                        Rev. Jeffrey B. Childs 1/21/23

Our journey begins at our birth,

Thus begins our story.

We start a lifelong pilgrimage,

To the land of glory.

To the land of glory.

Throughout our days of good or bad,

Are lessons to be learned,

About ourselves and about god,

The one for whom we've yearned.

The one for whom we've yearned.

In search of purpose and meaning,

We wander and we roam,

And when we finish we'll ascend,

To our eternal home.

To our eternal home.

We may not know all answers here,

In this life down below,

But there, with all who've gone before,

All we will fully know.

All we will fully know.

God Has Called Us to Come Follow

                        Rev. Jeffrey B. Childs 1/22/23

God has called us to come follow,

Jesus shows us the way.

Will you come join in the journey?

You have been called today.

You have been called today.

We do not need preparations.

All we need God will provide.

All we need is God who's with us,

Walking with us side by side.

Walking with us side by side.

Though we don't know what it's all about,

As we face it, come what may.

Step by step we'll figure it out.

We will learn upon the way.

We will learn upon the way.

We Are Blessed by Jesus

                        Rev. Jeffrey B. Childs 1/23/23

We are blessed by Jesus,

By his mercy and his peace.

Gave up his life for us,

From our sins gave us release.

We are loved by Jesus.

We are blessed in his name.

From our sins he frees us.

We will never be the same.

We are called by Jesus,

To go serve him everywhere.

For he will be with us,

As we the Good News share.

What Is That in Your Hand

                        Rev. Jeffrey B. Childs 1/24/23

What is that in your hand?

At the bush God asked Moses.

To do what God had planned,

All that's needed he did possess.

What is it that we have,

In our hand, our heart, our head?

If we only believe,

We have been blessed by God.

Rather than complaining,

About things that we have not,

Us God is sustaining,

We are gifted by God a lot.

Go in faith and wisdom.

God who made you goes with you.

Live into God's Kingdom.

For God will see you through.

Come before God with Joy and Praise

                        Rev. Jeffrey B. Childs 1/25/23

Come before God with joy and praise,

That your hearts be restored.

God will by faith your spirits raise,

As you worship the Lord.

As you worship the Lord.

As you, as you, worship the Lord.

Come before God in humble prayer.

Your hearts to God pour out.

Repent your sins and leave them there.

Faith wins out over doubt.

Faith wins out over doubt.

Faith wins, faith wins, out over doubt.

Come before God whose love is here.

God came down from above,

That words of Jesus you might hear,

That you would know God's love.

That you would know God's love.

That you, that you, would know God's love.

Praise Be to God and Jesus

                        Rev. Jeffrey B. Childs 1/26/23

Praise be to God and Jesus,

And to the Holy Spirit.

We give thanks that the Lord loves us,

And worship God solely.

And worship God solely,

And worship, and worship God solely.

For all God does lift up your voice,

And sing with joy your praise.

As one body let us rejoice,

And worship God always.

And worship God always.

And worship, and worship God always.

Lift up your hearts to God above,

Then go, strangers to meet.

As you've been loved, go out and love.

Be Jesus’ hands and feet.

Be Jesus’ hands and feet.

Be Jesus’, be Jesus’, hands and feet.

Come and Sing to the Lord

                        Rev. Jeffrey B. Childs 1/27/23

Come and sing to the Lord,

All glory and praise.

May the Lord be adored,

Forever and always.

Refrain:

Praise the Holy Spirit,

Who empowers us,

Sent from heaven by God,

Through our Lord Christ Jesus.

As the Lord's followers,

We most humbly pray,

That we love all others,

As we serve them each day.

Refrain:

For we have been blessed,

To serve by the Lord's side.

Our sins we've confessed,

And laid them aside.

Refrain:

When You Seem to Be Lost

                        Rev. Jeffrey B. Childs 1/28/23

When you seem to be lost,

And you can't find your way,

Then what you need most,

Is what God has to say.

Refrain:

Allow yourself to hear,

What you're able to sense,

In your inner ear,

The Lord's holy presence.

In the midst of a crowd,

Or when you're all alone,

When the noise is quite loud,

Or when there is none,

Refrain:

When all's out of control,

When your life is a mess,

When things take a toll,

Be still and let God bless.

Refrain:

We Lift the Name of Jesus

                        Rev. Jeffrey B. Childs 1/31/23

Refrain:

We lift the name of Jesus,

And all that in his name is done.

We lift the name of Jesus,

In whom we are made one.

The Angel spoke to Mary,

Before the holy birth,

That by Christ’s coming to us,

We’re given sacred worth.

Refrain:

The Christ child grew in wisdom,

That he might teach us all.

He invited disciples,

And twelve answered the call.

Refrain:

For three years then he taught them,

To follow on the Way.

They passed it on to others,

Down to us now today.

Refrain:

Down and down through the ages,

The faithful have held strong.

Through trials and tribulations,

We’ve sung this faithful song.

Refrain:

We take the name of Jesus,

Everywhere that we go,

Sharing with people Good News,

That Christ they'll come to know.

Refrain:

As Disciples on the Journey

                        Rev. Jeffrey B. Childs 1/31/23

As disciples on the journey,

May God keep us focused,

That in our mind’s eye we might see,

The Lord in whom we trust.

Moses stood upon Mount Pisgah,

And saw the promised land.

He did not reach that land he saw,

But did what God had planned.

Joshua would lead them beyond,

The Jordan to that place.

Yet God and Moses shared a bond.

They had met face to face.

It is the Lord God who calls us,

Upon our earthly quest,

That one day we’ll be with Jesus,

For our eternal rest.
