2025 June
Jeffrey B. Childs 6/2/2025
(Tune: Maryton UMH 654)
On Pentecost that day of
days,
Disciples were filled
with praise.
When the Spirit came upon
them,
As apostles they did
blossom.
With spiritual ability,
In foreign tongues they
did decree,
The good news of the Lord
Jesus.
So, what about the rest
of us?
Do we just hear an oft’
told story,
Of the Spirit and its
glory?
Or do we claim and share
the same,
And then proclaim Jesus’
name.
As we gather, in this
hour,
May we feel the Spirit’s
power.
Like prophets let us
prophecy,
And as witnesses,
testify.
O Lord, I Come to You in Prayer
Jeffrey B. Childs 6/3/2025
(Tune: Maryton UMH 654)
O Lord, I come to you in
prayer,
At anytime and anywhere.
With you everything I can
share,
When I pray, I know you
are there.
When there's too much
upon my plate,
For you no burden is too
great.
All things with you I
contemplate,
I know you can relate.
From depths of
desolation,
To heights of elation,
In the holy times of
devotion,
You give full attention.
Holy Spirit, Your Church Inspire
Jeffrey B. Childs 6/4/2025
(Tune: Maryton UMH 654)
Holy Spirit, your church
inspire,
With tongues of spiritual
fire.
Call us out from our
padded pews,
Bathed in rose-colored
stained-glass views.
Send us out by your
guiding light,
To see and feel our
neighbor's plight.
As Jesus walked among the
least,
They followed and their
faith increased.
Inspire us now in these
days,
From our more sedentary
ways,
Move us into your mission
field,
To see your glorious
harvest yield.
Come, Holy Spirit, Come
Jeffrey B. Childs 6/5/2025
(Tune: St. Michael UMH 662)
Come, Holy Spirit, come,
Revive your church again.
For holy work set us on
fire,
Now as you did back then.
On Pentecost we come,
Receive the Spirit's
power,
And all the gifts that it
bestows,
Refreshing like a shower.
Up in the upper room,
Back when the spirit
came,
Disciples were forever
changed,
They'd never be the same.
We Stand before the Lord
Jeffrey B. Childs 6/6/2025
(Tune: St. Michael UMH 662)
We stand before the Lord,
For all the world to see.
We stand for justice and
for peace,
As well as liberty.
We come before the Lord,
And here we take a stand,
To spread scriptural
holiness,
Here and throughout the
land.
We lift up to the Lord,
Our shouts and songs of
praise.
Thy will be done
forevermore,
To God this prayer we
raise.
Jeffrey B. Childs 6/7/2025
(Tune: St.
Michael UMH 662)
Here at the throne of
grace,
We stand before the Lord.
Penitently we plead our
case.
God's mercy is outpoured.
To God let us confess,
All wrongs that we have
done.
With mercy God will
surely bless,
And forgive us each one.
All praise be to Jesus,
From burdens we are set
free.
His call and yoke are
laid on us,
To follow faithfully.
God, Who Gave Solomon Wisdom
Jeffrey B. Childs 6/13/2025
(Tune: Tallis’ Canon UMH 682)
God, who gave Solomon
wisdom,
Justice for all not just
for some,
Give us this wisdom now
today.
O Lord, for this to you
we pray.
For in this world there
are great needs,
Resulting from ungodly
deeds.
We can learn lessons from
the past.
May your justice prevail
at last.
As We Arise to God We Pray
Jeffrey B. Childs 6/14/2025
(Tune: Land of Rest UMH 695)
As we arise to God we
pray,
To guide us through this
day.
With all our hearts we'll
follow you,
And do all we can do.
Throughout the day be
with us still,
And help us do your will.
Help us to watch and be
aware,
Of those in need of
prayer.
Then at the end of every
day,
Again to you we’ll pray.
With thanksgiving we'll fall
asleep,
Blessed to be one of your
sheep.
In the Quiet of the Morning
Jeffrey B. Childs 6/17/2025
(Tune: Land of Rest UMH 695)
In the quiet of the
morning,
Before the sun does rise,
Behold we watch the day
dawning.
God's glory fills the skies.
We share a passage from
the Word,
And let God speak to us,
That we might do just
what we've heard,
In the name of Jesus.
Thanks for a restful
sleep we pray,
As this new day's begun.
We share a prayer for
this new day,
And the tasks to be done.
As I Sit Here
Jeffrey B. Childs 6/19/2025
(Tune: Land of Rest UMH 695)
As I sit here upon my
chair,
Pondering this and that,
My wandering thoughts go
here and there,
As on my heart they've
sat.
I seek God's guidance
with inner eyes,
God's wisdom to attain.
All around me problems
arise,
What insight might I
gain?
To God I give thanks for
this day,
In which with God I
start.
I know all can't be done
today,
But I can do my part.
We Come before You, Lord
Jeffrey B. Childs 6/24/2025
(Tune: Land of Rest UMH 695)
We come before you, Lord,
To praise you and to
pray,
To be touched by a
message heard,
Convicted by your word.
Renewed by you this
glorious day,
We know all is okay.
No matter what, you are
with us.
Thanks be to you, Jesus.
Send us into the world
today.
Guide all we do and say,
That we might be your
hands and feet,
To everyone we meet.
The Work to Be Done
Jeffrey B. Childs 6/26/2025
(Tune: Land of Rest UMH 695)
The work to be done is
plentiful,
But the laborers are few.
God's gifts to us are
bountiful,
To do all we might do.
Perhaps to someone all
alone,
We can offer a call.
We can, at least, pick up
the phone,
That's easy after all.
There are people with a
heavy load.
We can lend them a hand,
And go the second mile
down the road,
Fulfilling Christ’s
command.
For those who struggle
with great need,
We can offer our prayer.
When nothing can be done
indeed,
We can at least be there.
Times Come When We Must Say Farewell
Jeffrey B. Childs 6/28/2025
(Tune: Auld Lang Syne)
Times come when we must
say farewell,
And go our separate ways.
Good memories will serve
us well.
Treasure the good old
days.
We've had struggles and
also pains,
Blessings as well as
strife.
We've had losses but also
gains,
For they are all part of
life.
Today let us give God the
praise,
For all that God has
done.
For life well lived
throughout our days,
God bless us everyone.
Bless the Lord All Creation Now
Jeffrey B. Childs 6/29/2025
(Tune: Land of Rest UMH 695)
Bless the Lord, all
creation now,
As before God we bow.
We worship God now and
always,
To God we lift our
praise.
As God's people our faith
we live,
And offerings to God we
give.
We give thanks and praise
for God's grace,
As we gather in this
place.
